Songwriting - Wow, that was a long break!

Wow, that was a long break

Songwriting - The Plan

Originally, I was going to take 2 weeks break while I moved house. However, the best laid plans turned into “Wow, that was a long break”. The move was on, off, on again. Then there was, all the usual things to organise. At the same time Uni started again. We were supposed to be moved by the time Uni started. This would leave me free to study my final term before launching my business.

The Reality

Moving while studying full time is not recommended, especially if you are serious about either. Life began to normalize about 3 weeks ago and I was ready to return to my posts when someone decided to damage our internet connection by cutting a cable outside our house and now, we are scrabbling to live without internet. I bought a WIFI dongle which is supposed to service up to 30 devices but struggles when I run 20 tracks on Pro Tools, by myself. Amazingly, I have 5 weeks left until I graduate my degree, and stress has become the norm. It is amazing what you can get used to.

The Future

My whole course has lead to this point. So, I set myself the goal of songwriting, recording, mixing and mastering 10 songs, as my final project for my degree. Originally, I was going to release an album but the world has changed. I am breaking it down into a Single Release then a 5 song EP, which includes the single. Then, around 4 months afterwards another Single Release and then another 5 song EP. I will talk more about this in future posts.

The past few months I have built a very talented bunch of people around me. I have to say, I am looking forward to the future of what we do together.

One big reason for the move, apart from financial, was that my family needed more space and I needed an office and studio from which to run my business. The move means I now have an office and studio with its own entrance. I am in the process of finalising the studio and the office furniture and I will be ready for business by the end of May.

I finish my degree the middle of May. I am taking 2 weeks break with possibly a trip to a music festival and then the 1st of June I am all systems go. Watch this space for more revelations of my time away from my posts.
